Care We Provide

Gentle, precise upper cervical chiropractic care for patients throughout Spokane and the surrounding communities.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care at Clear may look a little different from traditional chiropractic.
That’s kind of the point.

Clear Chiropractic specializes in craniocervical junction (CCJ) care, focusing on the alignment of the top of the spine, including the occiput, atlas, and axis.

This area is particularly vulnerable to injury, as the C1 vertebra is considered the “weak link” in the spine. Upper cervical chiropractic examines the communication between the nervous system and the body, given the CCJ’s close proximity to the brain and brainstem.

Unlike the rest of the spine, the CCJ lacks bony interlockings or discs, making it highly sensitive to misalignments. Misalignments in this area can have wide-reaching effects on body function. While Clear Chiropractic doesn’t treat specific medical conditions, their approach has helped patients with conditions like multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, and autoimmune disorders by restoring neurological balance, supporting natural healing.

Conditions We Commonly Evaluate

Headaches & Migraines

Headaches are a common medical condition, which can range from mild to a debilitating migraines. Recurring headaches may be accompanied by pressure, neck tension, visual changes, nausea, dizziness, or sensitivity to light and sound. We evaluate whether an issue in the upper neck may be one contributing factor.

Dizziness and Vertigo

Dizziness may feel like spinning, rocking, floating, imbalance, or difficulty trusting your footing. Because balance involves communication between the brain, eyes, inner ears, and body, we take a detailed look at each patient’s symptoms and history.  Upper cervical chiropractic care can identify the source of the problem and work to correct it under safe and gentle care.

Neck Pain and Whiplash

Whiplash can happen during car accidents, sports injuries, falls, or any event that suddenly moves the head and neck beyond their normal range. Symptoms may appear immediately or develop over time. We aim to restore mobility, relieve pain and prevent long-term consequences from auto injuries or whiplash.

Concussions and Brain Fog

A concussions can affect much more than your head. Patients may also experience neck discomfort, dizziness, visual sensitivity, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, or a feeling that they have not fully returned to normal. Upper cervical care does not replace medical concussion management, but an evaluation may help identify whether the neck was also affected during the injury.

TMJ and Facial Discomfort

Jaw tension, clicking, facial pain, ear pressure, headaches, and neck discomfort can sometimes overlap. We evaluate the relationship between the jaw, posture, and upper cervical spine to determine whether care may be appropriate. Trigeminal neuralgia, vertigo, ear pain, or  meniere’s disease are a few reasons people seek upper cervical health care.

Sciatica:

Pain from the lower back and into the legs is sometimes a sign of sciatica. We can often assist patients by correcting misalignments relating to the source of the pain, providing long term healing. Often times other treatments are focused in the area of pain and many times the source of the problem is higher up in the kinetic chain, we can help determine the cause.

Why We Use 3D CBCT Imaging

Every person’s upper cervical anatomy is different. The size, shape, angle, and orientation of the atlas, axis, and skull base can vary significantly from one patient to another. Because of those differences, we do not believe in using the same adjustment for everyone.

Cone beam computed tomography, or CBCT, gives our doctors a detailed three-dimensional view of the upper cervical spine.

Unlike a standard two-dimensional image, CBCT allows us to view the area from multiple angles and better understand the relationship between the bones and joints.

CBCT imaging may help our doctors:

  • View the atlas, axis, and skull base in three dimensions
  • Identify individual anatomical differences
  • Measure the direction and degree of an upper cervical misalignment
  • Plan a correction based on the patient’s actual structure
  • Avoid generalized or one-size-fits-all adjustments
  • Recognize findings that may require additional evaluation or referral

CBCT is one part of our overall evaluation, along with your health history, neurological testing, and examination findings.

The goal is simple: more information, less guesswork, and care that is specific to you.
